Last Things (Eschatology)
Physical death involves no loss of immaterial consciousness (Rev 6:9-11) but there is a separation of spirit and body (Jas 2:26) as the spirit of the redeemed passes immediately into the presence of the Lord (Lk 23:43; 2Cor 5:8; Phil 1:23). This separation will continue until the second coming of Christ (1Thes. 4:13-17) when our spirit and body will be reunited to be glorified forever with our Lord (1Cor 15:35-44, 50-54; Phil 3:21). The bodily resurrection of the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment (Dan 12:2; John 5:29; Rev 20:13-15) will also occur at Christ’s return when they shall appear at the Great White Throne of judgment (Rev 20:11-15) and will be cast into the eternal lake of fire (Mt 25:41-46) to experience the just wrath of God as the wages of their sin (Dan 12:2; Mt 25:41-46; 2Thes 1:7-9).
