India Update

The opening paragraph for the goals and guidelines of our mission statement reads:

Wellington Church exists because of the work of God’s marvelous grace in each of our hearts; therefore, we seek to fulfill the purpose for our calling by faithfully pursuing all He has commanded. This is our motivation for taking seriously the commission of Christ to: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey all things I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matt. 28:19-20

I recently returned from another week in Arangabad, India where I taught the book of Romans to a group of Indian pastors, some of whom traveled as much as 12 hours in order to attend the leadership conference. Though many Christian pastors were not able to attend this year due to a lack of housing facilities, those who registered early...to my surprise… brought with them guests from their communities who were Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim. I didn't readily understand why I was being asked some questions until the host pastor explained that these guests had come along to hear the gospel.

The young man in the yellow shirt who is shaking my hand was a Buddhist. He asked during the exposition of Romans 3: how does one become a Christian? At the end of the conference he vowed to take the gospel back to his family and village with hopes of returning to next year's Bible conference.

This outreach in India is merely an extension of what we do at Wellington every week; making disciples through baptizing them into Christ and teaching them to obey all He has commanded us.

We also have a team of individuals who travel to Honduras each year to work along side the MEDA ministry, which is part of the Master's Academy International outreach that seeks to prepare native pastors around the world to proclaim the good news of God's redemptive work through Christ at the cross.

_______________

Wellington has teamed with The Master’s Academy International (TMAI) in an attempt to fulfill the great commission throughout the world. To the left you will find an overview of TMAI, their purpose and method, and the featured institute (MEDA) located in Siguatepeque, Honduras.

Wellington took a team of 13 members to Honduras in September 2006 to assist local pastors in teaching God’s word, providing VBS outreach, and conducting several medical clinics. Our pastor, Wayne Holcomb, taught a Bible Survey class in a local church, while other members of the team worked with nearly 2,000 children and provided medical care to 475.

Wellington’s goal is to teach the truth of God’s word through sound doctrine and Christian love as we fulfill the great commission by making disciples at home and around the world.
