Truths about God received, believed and practiced determines your character (who you are), your behavior (how you act) and your destiny (where you will spend eternity)
Foundational truths about God:
- God has spoken to us in the Bible
- 2 Timothy 3:16 – “All scripture is inspired by God.”
- 2 Peter 1:21 – “Men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”
- Hebrews 1:2 – “In these last days (God) has spoken to us in His Son (Christ)”
- The Holy Bible is our source for understanding truth revealed from God and has absolute authority over every area of life
- God created the world and rules the world He created
- Isaiah 45:12 – “It is I who made the earth, and created man upon it. I stretched out the heavens with My hands and I ordained all their hosts.”
- Matthew 10:29 – “Not even a sparrow falls to the earth apart from the will of your Father.”
- God has absolute unrivaled moment by moment rule over His creation
- God is holy
- Isaiah 6:3 – “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts, the whole earth is full of His glory.”
- Revelation 4:8 – “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and is and is to come.”
- “To whom will you compare Me, that I should be like him? Says the Holy One (Isaiah 40:25).”
- God is completely set apart from His creation
- God is an imminent threat to wickedness
- Psalm 7:11 – “God is a righteous judge, and a God who has indignation every day.”
- Habakkuk 1:13 – “His eyes are too pure than to approve evil and He cannot look on wickedness with favor.”
- God, because of His holiness, opposes wickedness
- God created man, gave him a command and man chose to disobey God
- Genesis 2:16-17 – “The Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day you eat from it you will surely die.”

- Because of Adam’s sin everyone is born into sin

- Man cannot change His condition apart from God’s grace

- Man is born into this world as a sinner and will pursue a life of sin unless and until God intervenes through the gospel
- God planned the salvation of man before He created the world

- 2 Timothy 1:9 – “According to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity.”
- Before God created the world, God the Father planned salvation, Christ would come into this world to accomplish the Father’s will through the power of the Holy Spirit
- God is by nature a Savior
- Ezekiel 18:32 – “For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies,’ declares the Lord God. ‘Therefore, repent and live.”
- I Timothy 2:4 – “(God our Savior) who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
- 2 Peter 3:9 – “The Lord…is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”
- Although all men are sinners and face God’s judgment, God is by nature a Savior and has no pleasure in the death of the wicked
- God has established the Church to teach the truth that saves man
- I Timothy 3:15 – “The household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of truth.”
- John 8:32 – “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
- The Church is made up of believers who have come to faith in the Christ revealed in the Scriptures
- God saves man by revealing Christ to their darkened heart
- John 13:36 – “I (Jesus) have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.”
- 2 Corinthians 4:6 – “For God who said, ‘Light will shine out of darkness,’ is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”
- Through the Bible God reveals Christ to darkened hearts and transfers them our of darkness and into Light
- God unites believers to Christ who is the Head of the Church and gives it Life
- I Corinthians 1:9 – “God is faithful, by whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
- Colossians 2:19 – “Holding fast to the Head (Christ), from whom the entire body…grows with a growth which is from God.”
- Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, died and rose again to give spiritual life to His bride, the Church, and lives to make intercession for believers
- Romans 5:10 – “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, we shall be saved by His life.”
- It is the resurrection of Christ that gives hope and life to believers
