Christianity 101: “The Reliability of Scripture”

How can we know the Bible is the inspired word of God and not a composition of man’s ideas about God?  How did the Bible come into existence?  Why do Christians consider Scripture infallible and authoritative?  Can we trust the Bible is accurate?  How should I study the Bible to obtain a true understanding and meaning of Scripture?  This class is for those who may have questions about the inspiration of Scripture as well as those who believe the Bible is God’s word, but couldn’t necessarily defend their convictions when challenged by skeptics.  The supplemental texts will include John MacArthur’s "UnleashingGod’s Word" ($10) and Erwin Lutzer’s “Seven Reasons Why You Can Trust the Bible” ($10).  This series also takes advantage of topical tapes by John MacArthur.

Christianity 102: “An Overview of the Bible”

How can I understand the complete message of God’s word from Genesis to Revelation?  What ties the Bible together into a cohesive whole?  What are the underlying themes and truths of God’s word?  This overview will provide a fresh understanding of Scripture and its meaning for your life.  You will also gain a chronological understanding regarding the history of man and the redemptive work of God.  “What’s in the Bible” by Sproul and Wolgemuth will be the supplemental text ($16.00).

Christianity 103a: “The Attributes of God”

The foundation of all true knowledge of God must be a clear mental comprehension of His perfections as revealed in Scripture.  Unfortunately, too many professing Christians have little or no understanding of what the Lord has actually revealed in His holy Word regarding His aseity, immutability, sovereignty, supremacy, holiness, or power.  This course uses John MacArthur’s “Our Awesome God” ($10.00), Arthur W. Pink’s “Attributes of God” ($9.00), and “The Knowledge of the Holy” ($11.00) by A. W. Tozer as supplemental texts. Stephen Charnock’s “The Existence and Attributes of God” ($22.00) is also available in the Resource Center.

 Christianity 103b: “Sovereignty of God”

Everyone experiences adversity at some time in their life.  It comes in forms of sudden pain, traumatic experiences, devastating losses, but when it comes we seldom understand why.  When everything we’re going through suggests God either can’t help us or doesn’t care, it seems unwise to place our confidence in Him.  But nothing could be farther from the truth.  Through this study you will learn that God’s sovereignty, infinite wisdom and perfect love are always at work on our behalf.  The text is Jerry Bridge’s “Trusting God, Even When Life Hurts” ($11.00).

Christianity 104: Fundamentals of the Faith

Wellington offers a wide range of courses on a variety of biblical topics (in addition to Bible studies through various books of the Bible), but many have requested a course that encapsulates and summarizes the inspiration of scripture, the attributes of God, the person of Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit, prayer, fellowship, worship, spiritual gifts, evangelism, how to know God’s will, and more.  It provides a needed review for mature Christians, an enlightening summary for new Christians, and a wonderful overview for all who want to know what the Bible teaches and what Wellington believes regarding the core truths of the Christian faith.
