...Wayne Holcomb was the founding pastor of the Wellington Church after having served for more than 26 years in more traditional Christian churches, beginning in March, 1972 while he was still in college. However, Holcomb would be the first to tell you that he is not the primary leader at Wellington. From the beginning Wellington has acknowledged Christ as the head of the church; Who literally rules by the authority of His word. Holcomb is just one of a plurality of elders whose primary task is to teach and preach God’s word. Wellington is not led by a board of directors, but the church’s elders oversee the spiritual growth of the body through teaching, praying and providing biblical counsel while the deacons oversee the various service ministries.
The church leaders meet together a couple times a year to communicate and coordinate their services, but they and church members readily acknowledge Christ as the head of the church and reference His word on all matters of faith and Christian living.
Wellington began building a multi-functional Family Life Center that could be used throughout the week for God’s glory by the church as well as a Christian school in the summer of 2000. The 20,000 square foot facility was completed in the fall of 2002 and has served as a place for dynamic worship, biblical training, church fellowships, children’s musicals, Christmas dinner theatres, and a host of youth and athletic events.
While the number of families worshiping at Wellington has steadily grown each year, the measure of the church’s success has never been focused on how many attend, but how faithful the church is at teaching and living the whole counsel of God’s truth. |
