Home Fellowship Groups
Wellington’s small group ministry provides weekly opportunities for Bible study and fellowship in non-church settings in order to accomplish the following:
- To encourage one another day after day in our battle against attitudes of unbelief which arise in our hearts to steal our joy in Christ (Heb. 3:12-13; 10:23-25).
- To build up one another in faith through the use of spiritual gifts which the Lord freely distributes to His body for the purpose of edification, that we might become mature in Christ (Eph. 4:11-16; I Cor. 12:4-11; 14:12, 26; Heb.2:4).
- To pursue our joy in the Lord through the multiplication of worshipers for the glory of God in our city and beyond.
Groups may vary according to age, needs/interests; geographical location; ministry; family orientation; etc. but they all seek to provide a loving atmosphere for Christian growth through Bible study and fellowship.
HOW DO THEY FUNCTION?
Small groups are the basic units for Christian Community at Wellington. These groups are made up of 8-15 people in which the body-life of the church is lived out through the development of intimate relationships; through the discovery and use of spiritual gifts; through the discipline of discipleship; through going "outside the camp" (Heb. 13:13) to bring others to Christ and through making Him supreme in every aspect of our lives. It is within a small group such as this that the ministry of Wellington and the Body of Christ becomes most effective in our lives.
These groups meet weekly from August to December and January through May. During the summer months the groups usually function on a more flexible and individualized basis. The groups are led by gifted and trained leaders. Every group is unique, due to the blend of gifts, interests and personalities of group leaders and members.
WHY SMALL GROUPS?
The Biblical basis for small groups is very strong. The early church had them (Acts 2:46, 12:12, 20:8, 20:20; Rom. 16:4-5; I Cor. 16:19; Col. 4:5; Philemon 2). And many Biblical commands given to the church seem to require them. These especially include commands for Christians to minister to one another (Heb. 3:13, 10:24-25; Gal. 6:2; Col. 3:16; James 5:16; I Peter 4:8-9; Eph. 4:32).
Our prayer is that virtually every member and regular visitor of Wellington will view participation in a small group as an integral part of their privilege and responsibility that comes with being a part of the Body of Christ. The Lord wills to satisfy our deepest need which flows through us as we help meet the needs of others. |
