Wellington Church conducted its first worship service in September, 1998 when 31 families met in the gym of Rosa Parks Elementary for the purpose of establishing a non-denominational Bible Church that would fulfill God's great commission to the church by making disciples through the teaching of His word, the fundamental truths of scripture.  This core group was discipled in God’s word over the next four years through Bible courses such as: 1) The Reliability of Scripture; 2) Overview of the Bible (Genesis to Revelation); 3) Attributes of God; and 4) Fundamentals of the Faith. These initial courses in the study of God’s word continue to serve as the foundation for sound doctrine, spiritual leadership, and active service within the Wellington membership.

Wayne Holcomb, the founding pastor, served prior to the start of Wellington for 26 years in three churches in Kentucky and Indiana, beginning in March, 1972 while he was still in college.  However, he would be the first to tell you that he is not the primary leader at Wellington.  From the beginning Wellington has acknowledged Christ as the head of the church; Who literally rules by the authority of His word.  Holcomb is just one of a plurality of elders whose primary task is to teach and preach God’s word.  Wellington is not led by a board of directors or a group of pastors, but the church elders oversee the spiritual growth of the body through teaching, praying and biblical counseling while the deacons oversee the various service ministries.

The church elders and deacons meet together a couple times a year to communicate and coordinate the various ministries, but they readily acknowledge Christ as the head of the church and reference His word on all matters of faith and Christian living.

Wellington began building a multi-functional Family Life Center to be used for God’s glory by the church as well as a Christian school in the summer of 2000.  The 20,000 square foot facility was completed in November, 2002 and has served as a place for dynamic worship, biblical training, church fellowships, children’s musicals, Christmas dinner theatres, and a growing number of youth and athletic events.

While the number of families worshiping at Wellington has steadily grown each year, the measure of the church’s success has never been focused on how many attend, but how faithful the church is at teaching and living the whole counsel of God’s truth.
